Donna Poseley, Owner

About

A vision of vibrant colors, of blue lagoons, white coral beaches, palm trees swaying, the Pacific Islands have a place in our collective imagination as a idyllic paradise on earth. Transplanted from Jacksonville, Florida, Donna feels fortunate to have spent more than half her life residing and working in Hawaii. Arriving on Maui in 1982, she worked in the furnishings industry, while pursuing studies at the Berkeley Design School and New York School of Design. In pursuing her goals, she apprenticed with a local design firm, then establishing Island Essence Interiors in 1995. She appreciates contemporary expression of Polynesian Interior Design. Her personal style is tropical without "cliche" letting the essence of the islands be honored in the art, artifacts, patterns, textiles and color.

Collaborating with Mary Plaunt, having a Masters degree in Interior Architecture, enables Island Essence Interiors complete Architectural and Interior Design services. They specialize in high end residential and comprehensive speculative homes. Their projects are planned and implemented based on client needs, ideas and budget. The composition of a space, the needs of the occupants and the style are all determined by working closely with the client and developing a team that will carry their wishes to fruition.

Distinguished in real estate marketing, IEI home staging services provide a homeowner the opportunity for their property to show at its highest potential, therefore attracting the best possible buyer. They have achieved notable success for many Maui Land Developers and Real Estate professionals as well as their own spec homes.

Island Essence Interiors has been recognized for its innovation and attention to detail. Donna and Mary's extensive travels, appreciation for natural materials, and environmental consciousness has inspired their own personal style. They enjoy learning about Polynesian traditions and culture and sharing their deep spiritual respect for the land, sea and sky. They find the visual culture of the islands a captivating and never ending source of inspiration.

As a member of the International Interior Design Association, they have been provided various opportunities for diversification. They have completed numerous residential and spec homes, resort condominiums, hospitality venues and commercial projects in Hawaii, the US mainland and abroad.

Their projects have been published in Coastal Living, Kitchen and Bath Design, and Good Housekeeping as well as the international design publications Ilbagno, Spazio Casa, Interni, and La Mia Casa.
